2025 NAIS Institute on Leading Systems for Teacher Learning
May 15–16, 2025
NAIS Headquarters, Washington, DC

Schools today face increasingly complex challenges—problems without easy answers. From supporting faculty experiencing burnout and isolation to prioritizing whole-child development amid the pressures of college admissions and divided communities, the need for thoughtful, adaptive leadership has never been greater. This two-day, in-person workshop is designed for small teams of school leaders to practice adaptive leadership skills and mindsets to address complex, evolving problems. Teams also build instructional coherence across departments through purposefully designed professional development systems centered on teacher learning and growth.

Join Elham Kazemi, professor of mathematics education at the University of Washington, Megan Kennedy, director of the Resilience Lab at the University of Washington, and NAIS staff for an engaging session to kickstart this vital work. Llave with a clear, actionable plan to enhance teacher growth immediately.

If you’re a school leader eager to equip your team to tackle these challenges, join us for the NAIS Institute on Leading Systems for Teacher Learning.

Topics Covered

  • Core principles of adaptive learning, including distinguishing between technical and adaptive challenges.
  • Practices of adaptive leadership for navigating uncertainty and driving change.
  • Strategies to foster openness, trust, and transparency in teacher training and practice.
  • Systemic approaches to incorporate teacher collaboration and iterative practice into existing structures.
  • Ideas to embed professional development into the school to provide continuous growth opportunities for faculty.

Audience

Ideally suited for school teams of 2 to 6 people, including leadership team members, academic leads, and teacher leaders, this workshop is for leaders who want to:
  • Build resilience and adaptability in navigating uncertainty.
  • Retain exceptional teachers by fostering collaboration and professional growth.
  • Re-center on students by more intentionally connecting the classroom experience to student outcomes.
  • Put adaptive leadership and teacher learning into practice by addressing the timely and critical challenges facing today’s schools.
If you’re ready to empower your team, break down silos, and lead the way in modern learning, this is the workshop for you.
